What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Engagement Facilitator position at MLK JR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL?
JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, functions as a community outreach contact for parents to increase parental involvement at public and private schools in Bibb County Georgia. Uses independent judgment and initiative to perform a variety of administrative, clerical, and office management duties in support of management, staff and/or operations of an organizational unit. Uses observational skills to remain aware of changes in the behavior and physical condition of parents and students. May assist with meal preparation, field trips, transportation, and other activities related to the Parental Involvement Program as assigned by the school's principal or designee, or the Title I District Office.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Minimum of two years college (60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours),
2. Must apply for Paraprofessional license from Professional Standards Commission upon hire.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
1. Competent verbal and written communication skills
2. Proficient technology application
3. Awareness of basic knowledge regarding curriculum and instructional practices
4. Ability to observe, demonstrate, and guide classroom teachers in implementing and monitoring effective parenting skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists supervisor and other program staff with parent program presentations and/or special program initiatives as they related to parental involvement.
2. Assists with the organization of educational materials at the assigned school and/or Parent Teacher Resource Center.
3. Functions as community liaison for targeted populations.
4. Completes records and reports of outreach and other assigned activities. Maintains strict confidentiality of all student information.
5. Maintains knowledge of current policies, trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate notices/interpretations, books and other literature and attending training sessions, meetings, conferences, etc.
6. Obtains and/or prepares instructional materials/aids for parents/students.
7. Completes documentation of parent/student progress.
8. Works and communicates with the general public, internal and external customers, to provide information and quality services targeted to meet our parents expectations.
9. Provides administrative support to Title I and assigned school as directed by the management and professional staff of the Title I Office.
10. Receives screens and directs telephone and mail electronic communication. Greets and assists internal and external customers. May respond to some non-routine questions, requests or needs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
SALARY/TERMS/BENEFITS:
1. 190 day work year; eight (8) hours per day.
2. Salary Range: Grade 39 (placement on salary schedule based on years of related experience).
