ASCP Blood Bank CoordinatorA reputable hospital situated approximately an hour from Charleston, West Virginia, is looking for a meticulous and experienced Blood Bank Coordinator to manage the daily operations of our blood bank and transfusion services. This crucial position plays a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the blood bank, while upholding high standards in quality control, regulatory adherence, and patient care.Key Responsibilities : Oversee daily operations of the blood bank, including blood collection, storage, and transfusion services.Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements (FDA, AABB, CAP, CLIA) and perform routine quality control checks to maintain the integrity of blood products.Monitor blood supply levels, conduct regular inventory assessments, and collaborate with suppliers to maintain a consistent stock of blood products.Act as a resource for laboratory technicians, offering guidance and ensuring adherence to established procedures.Train staff on new protocols, safety measures, and best practices related to blood handling and transfusions.Document all blood bank activities meticulously, including inventory, testing results, and transfusions, in accordance with hospital policies and legal requirements.Collaborate with clinicians to facilitate safe and effective transfusions, including patient testing and cross-matching.Qualifications for ASCP Blood Bank Coordinator : Education : Bachelors degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.Certification : ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) preferred.Experience : At least 3 years of experience in a blood bank or clinical laboratory environment, with a minimum of 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role.Skills : Strong understanding of blood bank operations, exceptional attention to detail, and proficiency with laboratory information systems (LIS).
