Purpose of Position
Under general direction of the Executive Director of Research, Assessment & Improvement (RAI), the District Data Literacy Coordinator position is responsible for carrying out the mission and priorities of the District by leading and collaborating with other departments and schools to increase data literacy and use for data-based decision making with a lens on ensuring equitable outcomes for all our students, including our most marginalized groups. The primary purpose of this position is to enhance the district’s efforts to implement assessment and data literacy for continuous improvement through consistent practices and a growth mindset in a multi-faceted operation, with a focus on fostering a positive work culture. This position requires a high degree of integrity, a commitment to sustaining a culture of continuous improvement, and a dedication to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
Lead district-wide efforts to improve district data literacy and effective data use to support improvement efforts (50%)
Develop and maintain communication, documents, guidelines, and procedures that facilitate the use of data to inform instruction, evaluate program effectiveness, and guide decision-making both at a district and school level.
Design and implement professional learning opportunities for key stakeholders (e.g., school-based leadership teams, principals, instructional coaches) for targeted opportunities to enhance their data literacy, use of assessment tools and data platforms (e.g., P4L, eduCLIMBER, Data Dashboard), and ability to interpret assessment results.
Based on the request process, provide ongoing consultation and support to schools and the central office focused on data literacy, data use, assessment interpretation, and strategies for monitoring improvement.
In partnership with the Director of Assessment, coordinate and manage our Comprehensive Assessment System, including regular review and oversight.
Facilitate, support, and model data-based decision-making when supporting school and central office teams using continuous improvement cycles.
Support RAI strategies and workstreams (40%)
Lead high-priority RAI strategies tied to department goals, including convening cross-functional teams and defining team member’s roles and responsibilities; outlining specific, measurable outcomes for strategies annually and by quarter; creating quarterly action plans, with implementation steps and ways to monitor progress; align strategies led with other strategies and work streams within and across department goals; and other duties to ensure goals are met.
Support the implementation of a multi-year implementation plan for the District Improvement Plan, School Improvement Plans and Central Office Department Improvement Plans, particularly as action steps relate to the use of formative, interim, and summative data for monitoring and evaluating progress toward goals.
Collaborate with Central Office leaders - including RAI leadership, Associate Superintendents (Elementary, Secondary, and Teaching and Learning), and Curriculum & Instruction - to support and advance the work.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Training, experience, and expertise in the following areas of education: school and district leadership, race and equity; district and school improvement; working within an instructional team; standards-based assessment and instruction; culturally relevant and differentiated instruction; and technology skills to enhance professional learning, instruction, and assessment.
Demonstrated expertise in utilizing quantitative data to enhance student learning. This includes proficiency in using software such as Google Sheets/Excel to analyze data, generate reports, and draw meaningful insights.
Proven ability to utilize quantitative and qualitative data to inform the design and implementation of effective professional learning experiences that enhance educators' use of data-informed instructional and assessment practices.
Strong data literacy across relevant platforms in MMSD, including EduClimber, Data Dashboard, and Plan4Learning
Knowledge of research, best practices and issues in the area of assessment
Evidence of excellent oral, written, computer- and web-based communication skills; organizational and group facilitation skills; communication skills among diverse audiences, including teachers, building coaches, administrators, instructional leaders, support staff, and technical staff.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously and adhere to deadlines.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail.
Experience handling multiple tasks and complicated work in a complex environment with many stakeholders
Experience making independent decisions and exercise sound judgment with minimal supervision
Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions, interpret policy and communicate well with others.
Ability to give oral presentations.
Ability to compose written reports and documents.
Experience with meeting schedules and timeframes consistently
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, solve problems, resolve conflict, make decisions, and complete assignments on time.

Willingness to travel to different locations for MMSD purposes.
