What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sandstone Area Supervisor position at MN DNR - Forestry?
The Department of Natural Resources is seeking a skilled NR Forestry Supervisor to lead our team in the Sandstone or Cambridge, MN area office and field stations.
This position oversees all activities in the Division of Forestry Administrative Area, including direct supervision of staff and program implementation. Occasional overnight travel is required.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing multiple workstations and supervising staff remotely when necessary
- Performing supervisory duties such as hiring, promotions, discipline, and work assignments
- Implementing Division of Forestry programs at the Area level, promoting collaboration and problem-solving across departments
- Representing the Division of Forestry to other organizations, agencies, and the public
- Participating in regional and statewide planning efforts and establishing connections with adjoining field units
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Forest Science or a related field
- Four years of professional forestry experience, including two years in a senior forester role providing leadership to forestry staff or one year in a supervisory role
- Knowledge of forestry management principles and ability to implement public responsiveness techniques
- Supervisory experience and training in directing, coaching, and resolving conflicts
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution by the Society of American Foresters
- Two years of supervisory experience
- Knowledge of budget policies and procedures
- Broad range of experience in forestry field operations, including State Land Management, Resource Protection, and Cooperative Forest Management
- Completion of a Leadership Development Program or supervisory skill development program
