Job Summary:
The HR Head plays a pivotal role in supporting our expanding team by driving the success of our HR operations. This position is critical in ensuring the department runs smoothly and efficiently, providing employees with the support and information they need to thrive. The HR Head delivers comprehensive HR services and guidance while championing a positive and engaging workplace culture. With a focus on maintaining compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies, this role oversees key HR functions, including employee relations, benefits administration, recruitment, performance management, safety and policy implementation.
This is a hands-on role and must be comfortable working in agricultural and production environments and balancing administrative and operational HR responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with daily administrative tasks, including maintaining employee records and processing documentation.
- Coordinate recruitment activities such as job postings, scheduling interviews, extending employment offers, conducting background checks, and managing the onboarding processes.
- Manage employee inquiries regarding benefits, payroll, and HR policies.
- Assist in organizing and executing company events and employee engagement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, regulations, and internal company policies.
- Administer employee benefits programs, including enrollment and changes.
- Support HR in the development and implementation of new initiatives and policies that align with organizational goals.
- Coordinate training and development programs.
- Handle confidential employee information with discretion and professionalism.
- Collaborate with hiring managers to develop and maintain accurate and up-to-date job descriptions.
- Oversee the performance evaluation process, assisting managers set goals and creating development plans while ensuring timely completion.
- Provide coaching to employees and managers on performance improvement and growth opportunities.
- Act as an advisor to employees and managers by addressing workplace issues, fostering a positive work environment, and providing guidance on HR policies.
- Partner with leadership on workplace safety initiatives, ensure OSHA compliance, and manage workers’ compensation claims and reporting.
- Maintain and update employee handbooks, policies, and procedures to reflect current laws and company practices.
- Support audits and regulatory reporting requirements, including EEO, FMLA/Leave, and ACA compliance.
- Conduct exit interviews and manage the offboarding process to ensure a smooth and respectful transition.

Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 1-2 years of experience in Human Resources, preferably in a generalist capacity.
- Familiarity with Minnesota labor laws and HR practices.
- Familiarity with Department of Agriculture law preferred.

- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of HR software and systems is a plus.

Work Environment:
- Split between a standard office environment and time spent in agricultural and production settings such as greenhouses, grow rooms, processing facilities, or packaging areas.
- While in the office, the role involves desk work, using computers and attending meetings.
- While on the ground, the role involves interacting with employees in areas with varying temperatures, humidity, lighting, and ventilation, as well as exposure to strong odors, plant material, and agricultural equipment noise.
- Potential exposure to allergens, including pollen and plant material.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk while working on a computer.
- Regular walking, standing, and occasional bending or kneeling while visiting operational areas.
- Ability to lift or carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds occasionally.
