Position Summary :
This is the advanced level of the System Support Analyst series. Under general supervision, performs complex systems analysis, architecture, engineering, management, and operations work in support of mission critical technology systems; and performs related duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
- Serves as project technical lead for assigned projects; provides input for project scope and objectives, work plans, resource plans, and status reports; conducts meetings; tracks progress; reviews project deliverables; provides advanced level technical support and mentoring to technical and professional staff.
- Gathers, documents, and analyzes information related to system requirements; participates in RFI / RFP processes; participates in system research, evaluation and system selection recommendations for systems that meet defined requirements; participates in contract creation and negotiations for new systems; reviews system maintenance contracts and makes recommendations on maintenance levels and ways to reduce costs.
- Implements new commercial off the shelf systems; designs and develops custom add-ons such as data management forms, interfaces, reports, and web services based on requirements; interacts with and oversees vendor activities during system implementations; designs and develops new custom software, including full featured applications with data management forms, reports, interfaces and web services; supports and enhances existing custom software.
- Provides administration and support for enterprise custom developed systems, hosted systems, and / or commercial off-the-shelf systems; acts as server administrator for assigned systems (performs maintenance, security updates and administrative work to keep application servers operational); ensures adherence to internal and external security standards; tracks system operations to ensure optimum efficiency; monitors log files to identify issues and determine the root cause of outages; troubleshoots and resolves issues; works with vendors as required; simulates problems to test and evaluate potential solutions; develops documentation related to system configuration, maintenance and support.
- Researches, tests, and evaluates emerging technologies; views and assesses product demonstrations; makes recommendations on new technology solutions.
- Responsible for Active Directory and Group Policy Modelling; develops tools to enhance current processes for process improvement purposes; builds and executes strategies for automating processes to accelerate and enable self-service and continuously improve the responsiveness of IT services.
- Participates in the design, implementation and maintenance of the technical aspects of the City’s intranet and internet websites; performs server administration of web servers; monitors intranet and internet traffic trending for reporting and analysis; installs, configures, manages and supports network security technologies such as firewalls and reverse proxy servers to ensure secure access to internal applications being accessed externally from the City’s website; configures web applications and services in the DMZ; troubleshoots and resolves issues with web application accessibility; works with application teams to identify the most efficient, effective and secure means of deploying web applications internally and externally.
