What are the responsibilities and job description for the Civil Technician Student Worker position at MnDOT?
MnDOT District 1 will be filling various positions throughout District 1. Locations and work areas may include, but are not limited to:
- Major Projects (Twin Ports Interchange) – Duluth:Under the guidance of the Twin Ports Interchange construction staff, assist with routine material testing, inspecting and project documentation.
- Traffic Engineering – Duluth:Assists with traffic counting throughout the District, setting portable counters and using road tubes to obtain traffic volume and vehicle classification information.
- Materials Lab – Duluth:Assists Lab personnel with preparation and testing of samples; assists the Soils and Materials Engineers with project scoping. Supports the Soils Drill Crew with field investigation.
- Surveys – Duluth & Virginia:Assists Survey crews with field work throughout the District.
- Field Construction – Virginia & Grand Rapids:Assists field inspectors in sampling and testing construction materials activities, checking measurements, dimensions and tolerances of construction roadway features, and observation and documentation of construction operations.
- Bridge Engineering – Duluth:Assists in the updating of the District’s bridge inspection files and perform field work.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Applicants must be enrolled in a college, university, trade, or technical school in the next three (3) months.
- Students must be enrolled in six (6) semester or nine (9) quarter credits; or for a non-credit granting institution, two (2) or more classes per semester/quarter.
