What are the responsibilities and job description for the Foundations Drill Crew position at MnDOT?
The position will assist in performing and/or perform field operations of the Foundations Unit while operating the soil testing and sampling equipment in a safe and efficient manner for the investigation of subsurface soil, rock, and groundwater properties at transportation related sites across the State of Minnesota.
Examples of work for this vacancy include but are not limited to:
- Transport vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Maintain support vehicles and drilling equipment for subsurface investigation activities.
- Operate field equipment to investigate subsurface conditions.
- Investigate subsurface conditions through testing and sample collection.

Minimum Qualifications:
- A valid Class A CDL with no air brake restriction AND a tanker endorsement;
AND
- Two years of experience performing soils or materials testing related activities;
OR
- One year of experience performing materials testing or related activities and one year in any roadway construction, engineering support or roadways maintenance areas such as: soils, traffic, surveys, design, construction, hydraulics, maintenance etc.
- Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
Please note: A Two year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or the following four-year degrees: Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics; or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience.
