As part of our Bridge & Structures Practice, you will be responsible for preparing structural plans, specifications, cost estimates, calculations, reports, and general technical support for civil infrastructure projects. You will have the opportunity to work on a range of structure types, including bridges, retaining walls, culverts, gantries and signs, culverts, pipe supports, tanks and anchorages, pump stations, maintenance facilities, and more. You will support projects throughout California. You will have the opportunity to grow your technical competency focusing on the direction of your choice under the guidance and with the support of senior engineers and managers such that you can take on increasingly challenging tasks with commensurately increasing responsibility and autonomy.
Anticipated responsibilities include the following:
- Capital projects are often large and multi-disciplinary, involving all civil technical disciplines, often from multiple public and private organizations, as well as contract management and oversight professionals from multiple agencies. For the consultant to provide the most effective service and phased deliverables, exceedingly talented communicators and collaborators are required. It is our experience and firm belief that the most valuable skill for the long-term success of the bridge engineer is the ability to effectively communicate complex ideas, both written and spoken. You will be required to communicate in all forms, regularly, with the understanding that your communication is a reflection of our local competency, our larger business, and our dedication to professionalism.
- Preparation of construction/contract documents (PS&E), technical studies and reports, and supporting calculations and documentation.
- Competency in the use of bridge specific finite element analysis, section analysis, design, post-processing, and related software.
- Application of bridge design safety code requirements, including AASHTO LRFD.
- Application of Seismic Design concepts.
- Ability to perform construction site visits and offer construction support engineering services, to include responding to contractor RFI s and reviewing shop submittals.
- Ability to perform preventative maintenance-based bridge inspections.
- Ability to coordinate with CADD technicians to ensure timely and accurate plan preparation.
- Ability to manage and track your time, with some assistance, amidst a multitude of deadlines
- B.S. Civil Engineering. M.S. Structural Engineering highly preferred.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) License (ability to obtain California P.E. within 1 year)
- 4-10 years of progressive work experience in structural/bridge design
