About Mobile Loaves & Fishes
Mobile Loaves & Fishes (MLF) is a social outreach ministry that has been empowering communities into a lifestyle of service with the homeless since 1998. Founded in Austin, Texas, the organization serves its homeless neighbors through three core programs : Truck Ministry, Community First! Village, and Community Works. Often referred to as the most talked about neighborhood in Austin, Community First! Village is a 51-acre master planned development that provides affordable, permanent housing and a supportive community for men and women coming out of chronic homelessness. We are now embarking on a new phase of community expansion, adding more than 1400 new neighbors over the next 5-10 years.
About the Role
The Community Market Assistant (CMA) is an integral part of the Market & eCommerce Team and is responsible for supporting the operations of the Community Market at Community First! Village. This person should be customer-service oriented and a strong relationship builder, team player and self-starter, as well as someone who is passionate about empowering communities into a lifestyle of service with the homeless. This person is a servant leader who will steward and maintain a welcoming presence for our neighbors, staff, volunteers and all who visit the Community Market.
This is a non-exempt position reporting directly to the Retail & eCommerce Manager. The Community Market Assistant schedule is 8 : 30 am to 5 : 30 pm Tuesday-Saturday with occasional staffing for special pop-up art shows and events around Austin as needed. This is a fully onsite position at Community First! Village located at 9301 Hog Eye Road, Austin, TX 78724.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve as part of the team responsible for hospitality, sales, and function of the Community Market, which provides for the neighbors of Community First! Village, as well as the staff, volunteers, and guests who are onsite daily
- Staff the Community Market on Saturdays
- Process transactions using Square Point of Sale software
- Assist the Market team in submitting, receiving, inventorying, and merchandising products from multiple suppliers several times each week
- Ensure that all shelves are fully stocked by the end of day
- Train and lead market volunteers in daily activities
- Swiftly and accurately count and manage high volumes of cash
- Communicate MLF's mission, vision, strategy, values and goals with volunteers, guests & customers
- Ensure that all program activities operate consistently and ethically within MLF's mission and values and in accordance with MLF policies and procedures
- Communicate with the Market Team on a regular basis to ensure Community Market policies and processes are being implemented consistently
- Occasionally assist other teams with ordering for events and functions
- Report on time and ready for all scheduled shifts and meetings
