Modern Chemical, a forward-looking company establishing a significant presence in the South Texas region, is on the hunt for an Operations Manager to join our Houston office. As we expand our large position in the trading of gasoline, diesel, ethanol, naphtha, and specialty commodities, we require a dynamic individual capable of organizing and streamlining our trading positions. This pivotal role promises to be at the heart of our operations, driving efficiency and innovation in our trading strategies.
Position Overview
As the Operations Manager, you will play a critical role in supporting our ambitious growth plans. Reporting to the CFO, your mission will be to provide top-notch operational support to our trading team, ensuring seamless coordination with the Commercial team to uphold the highest standards of service. Your role will be instrumental in maintaining inventory control, managing stakeholder relationships, and ensuring our operations comply with all regulatory requirements, including EPA, Import/Export regulations, ASTM guidelines, and our own rigorous corporate policies.
Key Responsibilities
Facilitate smooth coordination between traders, operations, finance, contracts, accounting, and tax departments to ensure accurate and efficient processing of physical trade movements and financial transactions.
Oversee monthly inventory reconciliation, addressing discrepancies and ensuring accurate accruals are booked for each trade, strategy, or storage facility.
Manage secondary invoices, verifying correctness against Rate Agreements and overseeing proper cargo insurance and compliance with import/export regulations.
Optimize product blending and support traders in managing their positions effectively, including handling demurrage exposure and ensuring compliance with marine operations standards.
Maintain up-to-date records of storage positions, vessel, and barge movements, ensuring compliance with state controls and facilitating efficient vessel approval processes.
Support the Finance team with timely updates on product movement, credit coverage, and overall operational efficiency enhancements.
Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in physical trade logistics and an understanding of physical commodity markets and commodity derivatives.
A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in the energy trading industry, with a strong focus on operational excellence.
Exceptional teamwork capabilities, coupled with the ability to operate independently and communicate effectively with all levels of management, legal teams, business partners, and external advisors.
A commitment to integrity, punctuality, precision, and a hands-on, service-oriented approach.
Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and other MS Office applications, with a keen eye for process improvement and optimization.
