What are the responsibilities and job description for the Purification and Analytical Biochemist position at Modular Genetics, Inc.?
Responsible for all purification & analytical functions. Work will be executed in a cross-functional setting with strain engineers.
Duties will include:
- Development, optimization, and validation of FPLC, HPLC, LCMS and other methods to allow for detection, analysis, and purification of fermentation products.
- Development of assays to screen for and quantify production levels of various bio-chemical molecules.
- Create standards, best practices and test methods for data generation, analysis, processing and reporting.
- Provide support for strain engineering and fermentation scientists to measure increases in production efficiency of Modular’s products.
- Perform investigations, technical review and laboratory testing as needed to support delivery of projects.
- Provide technical support as needed to assist with customers.
Skills and Experience
- Advanced knowledge of instrumentation hardware and software
- Minimum of 5 years developing, optimizing, and validating LCMS, FPLC and HPLC methods, and product-purification techniques. Experience with preparative chromatography a must.
- Direct experience with Real-Time PCR, DNA sequencing and metabolic profiling a strong plus.
- Development, validation and transfer of analytical test methods and techniques
- Operation, calibration and maintenance of LCMS/HPLC and other instrumentation
- Bio-chemistry/Organic chemistry background
- Education: BS/BA in Chemistry, MS/Ph. D. preferred
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years developing, optimizing and validating mass spectroscopy; liquid chromatography and other separations test methods and related sample preparation techniques
- Utilization of advanced software tools for performing data analysis and reporting
- Knowledge of requirements applicable to testing laboratories
