Tool Design Engineer
Location : Wixom, MI, 48393
This position is responsible for designing accurate, innovative and robust fixtures and gages in support of manufacturing highly complex Aerospace and Industrial Gas Turbine Engine components. Working with all levels of the organization, this individual designs the necessary tools and gages to incorporate best practices and their experience and expertise to meet work holding and measuring requirements dictated by the manufacturing and inspection processes to produce both new and legacy parts. In addition, provide new concepts and be an active participant in continuous improvement activities for both new and legacy products.
Job Duties
- Assist Engineering and CNC / CMM Programming personnel in coming up with the best possible work holding and / or gaging method for a given component.
- Create 3D Solid Models of fixture and gage concepts in consultation with the Product Engineer.
- Work with Manufacturing and Quality personnel to ensure buy-in to proposed concept designs and application.
- Create accurate and easy to understand finish detail prints of all assigned fixtures and gages.
- Work with internal and external tool makers to ensure that final builds meet design and functionality intent and are produced at expected reasonable cost.
- Follow-up on all fixtures and gages as they enter production assisting manufacturing in trouble shooting and optimization as necessary.
- Participates in cross-functional manufacturing reviews helping to resolve issues and institute improvements as opportunities arise.
