What does a Controller do?
As a new Full-Time Controller at Mohave Cannabis Co., your daily expectations will revolve around a blend of strategic oversight and operational excellence. You will be responsible for managing the financial health of the organization by preparing accurate financial reports, monitoring key performance indicators, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. You'll collaborate closely with various departments to analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide insightful recommendations.
Daily tasks will involve budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management while leading the accounting team towards achieving targets. You'll also engage in problem-solving discussions, fostering innovation in financial practices, and streamlining processes. Your role will require you to stay adaptable and proactive, contributing to a high-performance culture that embraces challenges head-on as you help drive the organization's growth in the evolving cannabis industry.
What You'll Do (Personnel Duties, Authority, and Responsibilities)
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.
- This hands-on controller will oversee the operations of the accounting department and control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures.
- Prepare and present reports to the CEO, ownership, and investment partners.
- Prepare reports for the various regulatory agencies as required by law.
- Ensure accounts payable and accounts receivable are processed in a timely manner.
- Ensure bank reconciliations are completed.
- Maintain the chart of accounts.
- Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions.
- Issue timely and complete financial statements.
- Coordinate the preparation of quarterly and annual presentations.
- Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations - KPI's.
- Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics and manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts.
- Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management.
- Provide a system of management cost reports and financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
- Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
- Coordinate the provision of information to external accountants for tax preparation.
- Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Weekly financial reviews for all divisions and operations.
