Job Description
The Nurse Manager assumes key responsibilities in overseeing the operation and function of the nursing unit/department.
They promote the delivery of high-quality patient care by utilizing the nursing process and established standards.
This role provides an environment that fosters staff growth and development, while ensuring accountability for the management of human, fiscal, and other nursing resources.
The Nurse Manager supports the values and goals of the Department of Nursing and the hospital, working under the general direction of a Director or Senior Manager.
Main Responsibilities:
- Manage, supervise, and coordinate the delivery of optimal patient care.
- Ensure the effective and efficient operation of the unit and staff, including adherence to clinical patient care standards and regulations.
- Coordinate the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
- Ensure staffing and scheduling align with efficient, high-quality, and cost-effective patient care.
- Deliver a professional practice model that encourages staff participation in clinical standard development, collaboration, and utilization of current trends and data in professional practice.
- Consult and coordinate with other departments to provide an interdisciplinary approach to care.
- Routine rounds on patients with staff, prioritizing staff nurse-patient rounding accompanied by attending/consulting physicians.
- Lead or participate in change of shift/morning and discharge planning meetings.
- Serve as a clinical resource, professional role model, and mentor to staff.
- In partnership with leadership and Human Resources, make decisions or recommendations related to performance management, hiring, transfers, corrective actions, terminations, etc.
- Resolve staff issues and grievances in a fair, timely, and consistent manner.
- Ensure documentation of patient care is complete and accurate.
- Lead safety and performance improvement activities.
- Ensure timely, complete, and positive resolution to customer complaints.
- Evaluate staff clinical competencies and develop programs to foster continued clinical development.
Requirements:
- 3 years of nursing experience.
- Proven ability to lead, guide, and motivate staff.
- Experience in medical/surgical, nursing home, or related specialty.
- Proficient with Epic EMR.
