Position Overview :
A large, multi-state organization is seeking an experienced and driven Payroll Manager to lead a team responsible for overseeing the preparation and disbursement of payroll. The ideal candidate will provide leadership and guidance to the payroll team, ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and work to improve payroll systems for efficiency and effectiveness. This is a working manager position, balancing leadership responsibilities with day-to-day payroll tasks.
Key Responsibilities :
- Oversee the complete payroll process, including payroll processing, garnishments, bonuses, unemployment, tax compliance across multiple states, and reporting.
- Ensure accurate and timely calculations of employee wages, salaries, and other compensation, meeting scheduled pay dates.
- Stay current with federal and state payroll laws, including tax withholding, wage and hour laws, and state-specific regulations.
- Act as an escalation point for employee payroll inquiries and resolve any payroll discrepancies or issues.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, including payroll automation and system enhancements.
- Collaborate with the HRIS department to implement system enhancements and ensure proper integrations.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure compliance with record-keeping requirements.
- Perform periodic payroll audits and data analysis to identify trends, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.
- Establish and uphold internal controls to safeguard payroll processes and prevent errors or fraud.
- Generate and distribute various payroll reports to management and other departments.
- Provide payroll-related metrics and data to support strategic decision-making.
- Lead the payroll team, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture, setting goals, conducting regular team meetings, and evaluating performance.
- Coordinate with payroll service providers, third-party vendors, and external consultants as needed.
