We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering team, reporting into our VP of Engineering. This on-site position will be responsible for working with our engineering, design, and manufacturing teams to design, develop, and test liquid desiccant HVAC equipment and subsystems.

About the Senior Mechanical Engineer position:
We seek an innovative mechanical engineer to take a significant role in designing and engineering our third-generation liquid desiccant air conditioner. The successful candidate will “get in at the ground floor” of our newly launched and funded business to design and launch into the market industry-changing commercial HVAC products. They must be comfortable taking ownership of a project, collaborating with others, overcoming design challenges under deadlines, get hands dirty with testing, working across teams, and working both independently and as managed locally and remotely. Responsibilities:
- Develop and own models of the liquid desiccant air conditioning system and subystems in Engineering Equation Solver (EES), MATLAB, Python, etc.
- Design and build prototypes and execute subsystem tests to explore design space, characterize components, and validate solutions
- Perform heat transfer calculations and oversee selection of heating and cooling coils
- Work with component and system subject matter experts to design overall product package
- Manage a project across multiple stakeholders to meet required deadlines
- Lead design reviews internally and externally with suppliers
- Manage suppliers to design, quote, build, and evaluate parts
Required Qualifications:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or directly adjacent field of study
- >5 years experience in mechanical engineering
- Strong analytic and programming skills
- Strong critical thinking skills: ability to deep dive into cause-effect and complex diagnostics
- Demonstrated history of working independently, demonstrating ownership of projects, and attention to detail/ checking/ controlling quality and accuracy of their work
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics and heat transfer
- Experience testing hardware and validating/developing models with test data
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree, preferably with focus on heat transfer and thermodynamics
- Strong understanding of heating and air conditioning including psychometric calculations
- Strong understanding of refrigeration systems
- Experience with liquid desiccant or solid desiccant air conditioning systems
- Experience selecting components common to HVC including fans, pumps, heat exchangers, and refrigeration components
- Ability to travel to manufacturing location in South Carolina up to four weeks per year
