A Coax and Fiber Optic Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining coaxial and fiber optic cable networks for residential and commercial clients. This includes the installation and repair of cables, splicing fiber optics, and ensuring network connectivity is optimized.

The technician works with a variety of testing and diagnostic equipment to analyze signal strength, troubleshoot connectivity issues, and ensure the proper operation of cable systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Installation and Setup:
  • Install and maintain coaxial and fiber optic cables for internet, TV, and phone systems in residential, business, and industrial settings.
  • Set up and install related equipment, such as modems, routers, amplifiers, splitters, and other networking hardware.
  • Run new cable lines or replace damaged or outdated cables.
  • Troubleshooting and Maintenance:
  • Diagnose and repair network connectivity issues, including splicing, cutting, and reconnecting damaged cables.
  • Use specialized tools to test signal strength, data integrity, and overall network performance.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections to identify potential issues or areas for improvement.
  • Splicing and Termination:
  • Conduct fiber splicing, connectorization, and termination processes to ensure uninterrupted network operation.
  • Perform OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer) tests to pinpoint faults within fiber optic cables.
  • Customer Service and Education:
  • Educate clients on the proper use of equipment and answer any questions regarding network usage.
  • Provide professional and courteous service, ensuring clients are informed about their network's capabilities and any necessary repairs.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain detailed records of all installations, repairs, and services performed, including schematics and equipment data.
  • Complete work orders, and ensure accurate reporting of equipment used, time spent, and any troubleshooting steps taken.
  • Safety and Compliance:
  • Follow all safety protocols for working with coaxial and fiber optic cables, including ladder safety, fall protection, and electrical safety.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, company policies, and local regulations.

Requirements:

  • Valid Driver License and Social Security Card with clear background.
  • White Minivan/SUV OR Pick up truck.
  • Ability to interact with customers.
  • Deliver good metrics.
