About the Summer Internship Program
The Summer Internship Program provides undergraduate and graduate students and beginning professionals with practical experience in a specific area of museum work at The Museum of Modern Art. Interns participate in weekly professional development activities designed to increase understanding of the Museum’s various collections, exhibitions, and departments. The Museum hosts approximately 25 interns in various departments across our institution. Participants may arrange for academic credit through their school, but it is not a requirement.
MoMA Summer 2025 internships require a commitment of four days per week. The schedule is Monday-Thursday, 9:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. One must have a minimum of two years of college completed (or equivalent) by June 2025 in order to apply.

Department Projects & Tasks
The intern will support three key aspects of the Museum’s fundraising efforts:
- Donor stewardship: Assist with the creation and distribution of donor stewardship materials, including exhibition final reports, gift acknowledgements, update mailings, and event invitations. Potential projects include drafting donor correspondence, crafting mass-mailing materials, and planning cultivation events.
- Administrative and Database support: Undertake an audit and data cleanup project for both our physical and digital files, update donor contact information, and expand research data.
- Research Projects: Analyze arts and philanthropy industry practices and compile recommendations based on relevant examples. Research topics may include donor recognition, prospecting, events, and communications.
The intern will gain practical experience in donor stewardship, which includes cultivation, acknowledgment, reporting, and utilizing writing skills, while also gaining insights into fundraising strategies. Additionally, the intern will develop essential administrative skills, such as file organization, proficiency with CRM databases, and project management. This role may also provide opportunities to learn valuable tools such as Salesforce, Asana, and Emarsys.
Department Skillset Requirements
Candidates with a demonstrated interest or experience in the arts and/or arts administration, preferably fundraising. Sound judgment and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion is required. Excellent oral, written, and communication skills are required and a familiarity with Microsoft Office and CRM database is preferred.
