Job Title: School Psychologist
Department: Special Education
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Professional Educator License with School Psychologist Endorsement.
- Experience in the field of School Psychology Services helpful but not required.
REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services and Superintendent
POSITION GOAL: To facilitate learning and to promote the cognitive, social, and emotional development of all students.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs personal counseling with individual students to help with personal, social, or emotional maladjustments related to their educational and social progress.
- Provides information to parents as an integral part of the task of helping students, to increase the parents’ understanding, their constructive participation in resolving their child’s problems, and their knowledge and use of appropriate resources available.
- Consults and collaborates with other school personnel in gathering and giving information on a case, and in establishing and planning for respective roles in the modification of the student’s behavior.
- Participates as needed in the referrals of students to outside agencies such as the DCFS, local police and sheriff departments, Juvenile Court, and the like, as appropriate.
- Serves as liaison between home and school when considerable follow-up is necessary, as in welfare cases, foster home children, and disadvantaged students.
- Keeps sufficient records of cases for use by school staff members and outside agencies when appropriate.
- Compile and maintain state/district assessments database.
- Evaluate and interpret state/district assessments data to identify areas of student’s needs.
- Provide consultative services to other professional personnel.
- Serves as consultant to school board, superintendent, administrative committees, and also parent-teacher groups in matters involving psychological services within educational system or school.
- Conducts individual / group sessions for special education students based on IEP goals/ related service denoted in the IEP.
- Make referrals if the student is in need of specialized services.
- Schedules and participates in IEP meetings as requested by parents, teachers, students, or administration as needed.
- Assist with implementation of district-wide screenings related to academic skills.
- Participates in Team Recommendation meetings as needed.
- Participates in Problem-Solving Team meetings.
- Conduct student evaluations as part of a comprehensive case study.
- Conduct student re-evaluations as required by law.
- Evaluate students based upon screening results and referrals from teachers, parents, and physicians.
- Participate in early childhood screenings.
- Write and communicate summary reports regarding evaluation results, eligibility for services, and recommendations for school-based therapy.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records as required by law and district policy.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Maintain communication with parents regarding the progress of assigned students.
- Follow all policies and rules governing student life and conduct during school related activities.
- Attend staff meetings as directed by the principal or special education/early childhood coordinator.
- Communicate and maintain a professional relationship with teachers, students, parents, and other staff.
- Acquire appropriate number of continuing education units for continued licensure in Illinois.
- Obtain and maintain appropriate certification in crisis intervention as directed by the Director of Student Services or Superintendent.
- Perform physical restraint of students when necessary.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality of information about students.
- Perform other duties to provide psychological services as assigned by the Director of Student Services or Superintendent.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: As determined by salary statement.
