Youth Program Coach
A Momentum Youth Program Coach assists in facilitating and coaching Momentum’s Youth Programs under the direction of the Head Coach and reports directly to the Youth Program Manager (YPM). Coaches work part-time. We are currently hiring for our Mo Mini (Ages 5-7) program.
Key Responsibilities:
Staff Management and Development:
- Lead by example to foster a positive community aligned with Momentum’s vision and values.
- Continuously cultivate a positive program culture.
- Communicate with the YPM regarding the Youth Program schedule and events.
- Attend ongoing Youth Program training sessions.
Customer Service and Facility Obligations:
- Provide parents with feedback on climbers before and after practice, ensuring a positive customer experience.
- Develop a basic understanding of gym programs and products.
- Prioritize the immediate needs of participants at all times.
- Command respect, enforce safe climbing practices, and professionally address concerns with coaches and participants.
Weekly Recurring Tasks:
- Remain actively engaged and coach throughout the scheduled Youth Program shift, ensuring participants receive continuous guidance, feedback, and support.
- Support operations staff with the distribution of Youth Program gear.
- Enforce Momentum policies with friendliness, patience, and respect.
- Become aware of each participant's skill levels and individual needs.
- Keep practices engaging, fun, and focused on active participation for all athletes.
Requirements
Hours and Availability:
- Part-time
- Preference for coaching on multiple days throughout the week.
- Youth Programs typically run:
- Weekdays: 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
- Our Mo Mini Program: 4:30-6pm on Fridays
Experience, Skills, and Certifications:
- At least one year of climbing experience with a strong enthusiasm for climbing.
- Ability to work with large groups of kids, ranging from ages 5-7.
- Experience in bouldering preferred.
- Experience with formal instruction or teaching is a plus.
- Clear and effective communication skills in person and by email.
- Willingness to respond to unexpected tasks with a positive attitude.
Environmental and Physical Demands:
- Comfortable working in a loud environment regularly.
- Confident in speaking to and providing instruction to large groups.
- Comfortable working at height and moving up and down climbing walls.
- Ability to stand and walk on unstable and uneven surfaces for extended periods.
- Capable of repeatedly lifting, moving, and carrying up to 50 lbs.
- Able to balance, kneel, pull, push, and grasp objects as necessary.
