Job Summary
Maintains a database unique to the trauma registry. This can include identification, collection, coding, scoring and enteringdata into a registry database. In addition, performing follow-up for the purposes of incidence, treatment and outcomes,performance improvement, administrative planning and marketing, support programs and research activities. Interpretsdata for research projects.
Responsibilities
Oversees and manages the trauma database per regulatory standards.
Interfaces with outside facilities for follow-up information regarding transferred patients. Records accurate diagnoses, procedures, operations, complications and discharge status. Identifies, prepares, and distributes a list of the trauma patient census and daily admissions to the Trauma program Medical Director. Prepares monthly summaries of all trauma-related deaths. Prepares and presents monthly and annual statistical reports for trauma specialty and other meetingsas requested Codes injury severity for all traumatic injuries using doctor/nurses notes, pre-hospital information,radiology reports, operative reports, and consultations. Prepares and submits data summaries to the West Virginia Health Division; i.e. West Virginia Trauma Registry as requested. Provides statistical data as requested by the Trauma Coordinator and Trauma Medical Director Maintains 95% accuracy of data submission.
Performs Other Duties as Required
Attends mandatory in-services, 100% of all staff meetings, and attends internal education sessionsas scheduled. Completes all required competency assessments. Maintains required job knowledge (e.g. licensure and credentials, continuing education etc.). Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Computer literacy and familiarity with medical terminology and medicalcoding normally acquired through previous training or experience is preferred. Effective interpersonal communication skills inorder to maintain cooperative working relationship.
