Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Pediatric Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team at WUCA Monarch Pediatrics. The ideal candidate will provide compassionate and efficient clinical support to pediatric healthcare professionals, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to young patients. This role involves a combination of administrative tasks and hands-on patient care within a pediatric medical setting.
Responsibilities:
1. Patient Care:
· Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare them for medical examinations.
· Take and record vital signs, height, weight, hearing, vision, and other relevant patient information.
· Perform medical procedures, such as simple diagnostic tests, minimally invasive procedures, wound care, specimen collection, and nebulizer treatments.
· Ensure proper disposal of biohazard materials in accordance with healthcare guidelines.
· Assist pediatric healthcare providers in conducting examinations and procedures, ensuring a child-friendly and supportive environment.
· Assist with patient flow and ensure the overall smooth operation of the clinical office.
2. Immunizations and Medications:
· Administer vaccines and medications, including IM/subcutaneous injections and nebulizer treatments, as directed by the physician, adhering to established protocols.
· Provide education to parents and caregivers on medication administration and potential side effects when appropriate.
3. Documentation:
· Record chief complaints, vital signs, allergies, home medications, and pharmacy information.
· Assist with EHR order entry when appropriate, following Washington University guidelines.
· Maintain accurate and timely paper and electronic health records.
· Document in vaccine, laboratory, and medication inventory logs. Record refrigerator and freezer temperatures as required.
4. Communication:
· Communicate effectively with parents, caregivers, and other pediatric healthcare providers.
· Provide basic education regarding preventive care, nutrition, overall wellness, treatment plans, and follow-up care when appropriate.
5. Equipment and Supplies:
· Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring they are clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies.
· Monitor supply inventory and equipment condition. Assist in ordering adequate supplies and facilitating equipment repairs when necessary.
· Maintain vaccine inventory and order as needed, including through Vaccines for Children (VFC).
· Perform various quality control procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations.
6. Administrative Support:
· Schedule appointments.
· Print visit summaries and patient education handouts. Scan patient-related documents.
· Maintain supply inventory and place supply orders.
Qualifications:
1. Education:
· High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.
· Completion of a Medical Assistant program from an accredited institution.
2. Certification:
· Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA). Medical Assistant credentials must be obtained from in-person proctored exams from the following certifying bodies: AAMA, AMT or NHA. In-person proctored credentials from other certifying bodies may be accepted upon:
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program (such as RN/LPN), or comparable allied health training program, with a minimum of one year of relevant experience OR
- Ability to show proof of a Medical Assistant certification/registration with successful completion of certification exam (online proctored exams are not sufficient to meet the credential requirement) within six months of hire date (or within a shorter time frame if noted by hiring manager).
· Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).
3. Requirements:
· Maintain required HIPAA compliance and skills/competencies. Participate in in-services, staff programs, continuing education, and cross-training programs according to established standards and Washington University policies.
· Comply with OSHA, state, and federal regulatory sources/standards.
· Participate in quality improvement activities to ensure appropriate clinical outcomes.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
· Employment is conditioned upon successful completion of a reference check, criminal background check, and/or drug screen.
· Obtain vaccinations as required by Washington University policies or provide valid exemption. Required vaccinations may include annual influenza and COVID-19 vaccines in addition to routine childhood vaccines.
4. Experience:
· Six months of related work experience. Examples of related fields include military medic, emergency medical technicians, Nurse’s Aide, physical therapy and nurse technicians, school nurse, and certified athletic trainers. Pediatric experience preferred.
· Experience with EPIC electronic health record preferred.
5. Skills:
· Proficient in taking vital signs, performing medical procedures, and administering vaccinations and medications.
· Proficiency in typing and in the use of electronic health records (EPIC preferred).
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially in dealing with children and their families.
· Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Ability to be self-directed and flexible in a fast-paced environment.
· Ability to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals and support staff. Willingness to assist with other duties as needed.
6. Availability:
· Daytime hours Monday-Friday with rotating Saturday morning shifts.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
