Assistive Technology Provider

LOCATION OF POSITION: Monroe 1 BOCES – 41 O’Connor Road, Fairport, NY 14450; Office of Assistive Technology Department, Various locations per service requests

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Month Position - Part Time

STARTING DATE: As soon as possible

SALARY RANGE: $48,000 - $78,401 per school year, prorated per FTE

Duties

Assisting students in the selection, acquisition, or use of an assistive technology device that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities, including:

• Providing assistive technology services within program assignment and in accordance with IEPs. Communicating with parents, teachers, and other involved professionals and appropriate community agencies/services to coordinate services.
• Making recommendations regarding the acquisition of assistive technology devices needed for students with academic needs; designing, fitting, customizing/adapting, and maintaining assistive technology devices.
• Providing an evaluation and/or re-evaluation of functional skills in the student’s customary environment.
• Assisting with the development and implementation of IEPs (including preparation of annual reviews and re-evaluations) that address a need for assistive technology support and how they integrate with academics, based on students’ needs.
• Providing thorough and timely reporting consistent with Department policies and program requirements.
• Providing training or technical assistance to the student, the student’s family, and educational staff.
• Participate in departmental, program, and building meetings, team meetings; and professional learning community.
• Establish and maintain a daily schedule.
• Implement various service delivery models.
• Establish and maintain professional working relationships with other professionals, parents, students, and department colleagues.
  
  

Qualifications

• NYS Certification as a Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped/Teacher of Students with Speech/Language Disabilities with NYS Licensure & ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology preferred, Teacher of the Visually Impaired, Special Education teacher OR Civil Service eligibility as an Occupational Therapist in Possession of a valid license and currently registered by the New York State Education Department as an Occupational Therapist
• At least 3 years’ experience with assistive technology support preferred.
• Certification as an Assistive Technology Provider preferred.
• Experience with school age special and general education populations preferred.
• Experience with itinerant service delivery models preferred.
• Physically able to perform essential functions of the position (with or without reasonable accommodation).
