Job Description:

Function of Position:

The Associate Director of Curriculum and Assessment reports to the Director of Academic Services and is responsible for the maintenance, enhancement, and implementation of assessment systems that measure and support student learning, academic program effectiveness, and institutional improvement within the Academic Services Division.

In support of these goals, the Associate Director collaborates with faculty and staff to develop and refine curriculum and assessment practices that promote data-informed decision-making and continuous improvement. This position plays a key role in ensuring compliance with accreditation standards, serving as the College's Accreditation Liaison Officer for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and contributing to MCC's regional and national reputation as a leader in assessment and institutional effectiveness.
With a focus on student learning, retention, and success, the Associate Director serves as an advocate for evidence-based assessment strategies that enhance teaching and learning. This position functions as an enthusiastic and informed ambassador for initiatives that align with the College's commitment to excellence, innovation, and efficiency in supporting a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.


Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

Accreditation and Compliance

  • Serves as the College's liaison to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), ensuring accreditation requirements align with institutional goals and planning.
  • Guides curriculum development, program evaluation, and accreditation compliance, ensuring alignment with MSCHE and SUNY requirements.
  • Interprets and communicates SUNY, New York State Department of Education (NYSED), and MSCHE guidelines related to academic assessment and program review.
  • Facilitates communication among SUNY, NYSED, and MSCHE on matters related to accreditation and assessment.

Assessment of Student Learning and Program Effectiveness

  • Leads and supports faculty in assessing student learning and evaluating program effectiveness across academic departments.
  • Works collaboratively with faculty and staff to develop and implement effective assessment tools for academic programs and student learning outcomes.
  • Launches new assessment software platform for the College.
  • In collaboration with the Teaching and Creativity Center, designs and delivers faculty training on student learning assessment and academic program evaluation.

Administrative Unit Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness

  • Supports faculty and staff in conducting administrative unit assessments within the Academic and Student Affairs Division.
  • Develops and maintains protocols for assessment and evaluation of academic programs and administrative units.
  • Assists in planning and executing unit assessments that align with institutional effectiveness goals.
  • Supports the development and delivery of training for administrative unit assessment to ensure consistent evaluation practices.

Curriculum Oversight and Institutional Support

  • Supports the Director, Academic Services, in curriculum development and academic program planning.
  • Manages and maintains the curriculum database, ensuring integrity and integration with College systems.
  • Ensures alignment with College curriculum, assessment, and evaluation calendars.
  • Serves on committees related to assessment, curriculum, and accreditation as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director, Academic Services.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned Master's degree in an academic discipline or relevant administrative area (e.g., higher education administration) from a regionally accredited higher education institution.
  • Experience in academic assessment, program evaluation, and curriculum review.
  • Experience with accreditation processes, including involvement in institutional or programmatic accreditation reporting, compliance, or self-study coordination.
  • Evidence of effective communication (interpersonal, speaking, writing) skills.
  • Proficiency in technology.
  • Commitment to the philosophy of the comprehensive community college.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with one or more online course management systems.
  • One year full-time (or part-time equivalent) undergraduate teaching experience.
  • Two years of relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership roles in college-wide committee work, assessment, program review or curriculum development preferred.
  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish or other languages proficiently


Additional Information:

Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position has a range of $72,000 - $82,000 and is based on these mentioned factors.

MCC offers a Flexible Work Policy for benefit eligible employees. Types of flexible work arrangements include flextime/staggered shifts, remote work/telecommuting and compressed work schedule. The availability of flexible work arrangements varies by division, department, and position, based upon business and operational needs. Limitations to flexible work arrangements are outlined in the official policy.

Prohibition of Remote Work Outside New York State: Remote work locations outside New York State are not authorized by the College due to out-of-state tax and regulatory implications. In limited circumstances, prompted by business or operational needs, the College may approve requests to work remotely outside of New York State, on a short term, temporary basis.
