What are the responsibilities and job description for the Percussion Instructor position at Monroe High School Marching Band?
Responsibilities
- Attend summer band rehearsals. Dates and time TBD by the Director of Bands
- Attend all rehearsals during the course of the season
- Attend all competitions (approximately 4), home football games and other public appearances as needed by the Director of Bands
- Design, choreograph and teach percussion routines that effectively complement and enhance the percussion component of the marching band show
- Evaluate members’ abilities and design a routine accordingly
- Work closely with the Director of Bands and other staff members to develop a program that includes multiple types of percussion instruments
- Instruct members in fundamental percussion techniques
- Manage all equipment necessary for rehearsals and performances including maintenance, repair and acquisition recommendations ensuring that the percussion students are properly equipped for rehearsals and performances
- Recruit potential percussion members while retaining current members
- Other related duties, as assigned, to assist the Director of Bands prepare students for home games, competitions and public appearances
- Follow all policies of Union County Public Schools and the band program to which they are associated.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Must be 21 years old or older
- Must be experienced working with marching bands (college Bands preferred but not required)
- Have knowledge/experience in the percussion style consistent with HBCU drumlines.
- Experience in composing and arranging percussion parts.
- Demonstrated management and leadership skills
- Ability to exercise good judgment in making decisions
- Proven ability to carry an assignment to its completion
- Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks associated with the duties and responsibilities listed below
