TITLE: TOSA - Dean of Students
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
POSITION SUMMARY:
Assist the administration in the implementation of all MTSS work across the building, specifically related to school-wide essential behaviors. This will include ensuring essential behaviors are taught well at Tier 1 across all classrooms and building out our Tier 2 and Tier 3 process for intervention. Managing Homeroom and Flex Time, supervision during the day and after school activities and athletic events, as well as other duties as assigned by the building principal.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- Must hold a current Washington State Teaching Certificate
- Effective communicator
- Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously
- Ability to work in an atmosphere with frequent interruptions and distractions
- Ability to implement positive discipline/attendance procedures and systems at the secondary level
- Ability to establish relationships with staff, students, parents and community
- Ability to collaborate effectively and positively within a high functioning team
Preferred
- Washington State Secondary Principals’ Credential or seeking a principals’ credential
- Three years successful teaching experience at the secondary level
- Experience with student athletics/activities
- Demonstrated ability to work well with people from a variety of backgrounds and use shared decision- making processes
- Demonstrated ability to encourage excellence in staff and students
- Demonstrated leadership ability
- Strong understanding of and experience with the MTSS framework and the PLC process
Special Requirements
- Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint clearance
- I-9 employment eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act
- HIV/HBV training (obtain within 60 days of hire date – District provided)
- Human Resources new hire training (obtain within 60 days of hire date – District provided)
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist administration in the supervision of students in a variety of settings
- Creating systems to ensure students are using essential behaviors
- Participating in a Tier 2 MTSS team identifying students who need additional behavior support
- Work with staff to create and deliver lessons that teach our essential behaviors to students throughout the year
- Monitoring the school’s homeroom/flex period logistics
- Help engage in restorative practices, designing curriculum and lessons for students violating the district's harassment, intimidation, and bullying policy
- Administer discipline related to student behavior in accordance with District policy and standards and under the direction of an Assistant Principal/Principal
- Monitor completion of assigned discipline; such as after school/lunch detention, in school suspension
- Compile statistical data related to essential behaviors and using that data to monitor the effectiveness of our interventions
- Facilitate communications with parents of students experiencing difficulties around our school-wide essential behaviors
- Partner with the Attendance Intervention Specialist in the administration of the Becca Bill requirements which may include representing the school in court, communication with parents, and interactions with teachers
- Work closely with administration for increasing student attendance and sense of belonging, two of our school improvement goal areas
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time using a computer and telephone, walk for extended periods of time both indoors and outdoors, and stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle
- Ability to tolerate exposure to hot, cold, humid or windy conditions caused by weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion
- Ability to perceive the nature of sound, have near/far visual acuity, gauge depth perception, provide oral information, and operate business related equipment
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
This position is that of Dean of Students and is represented by the MEA collective bargaining unit. The position of Dean of Students will work a schedule in coordination with the District student calendar. Salary and benefits as determined by the current collective bargaining agreement. Both day/evening and week day/weekend hours are required. Required extra days will be paid at per diem rate.

Performance shall be evaluated annually according to Board and administrative policies and procedures.
