  • Salary listed is based on the 2024-25 salary schedule and will be updated upon board approval of the 2025-26 salary schedule.

TITLE:                   TOSA - Dean of Students

 

REPORTS TO:            Building Principal

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

  • Assist the administration in the management of student behavior including attendance, Becca Fill, discipline, supervision during the day and at after school activities and athletic events.
  • Assist in the management of facilities on campus such as Assembly preparations in the Gym or Performing Arts Center.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Must hold a current Washington State Teaching Certificate
  • Effective communicator
  • Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work in an atmosphere with frequent interruptions and distractions
  • Ability to implement positive discipline/attendance procedures at the secondary level
  • Ability to establish relationships with staff, students, parents and community

Preferred

  • Washington State Secondary Principals’ Credential or seeking a principals’ credential
  • Three years successful teaching experience at the secondary level
  • Experience with student athletics/activities
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with people from a variety of backgrounds and use shared decision- making processes
  • Demonstrated ability to encourage excellence in staff and students
  • Demonstrated leadership ability

Special Requirements

  • Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint clearance
  • I-9 employment eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act
  • HIV/HBV training (obtain within 60 days of hire date – District provided)
  • Human Resources new hire training (obtain within 60 days of hire date – District provided)

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

POSTION RESPONSIBILITIES:

            Student Attendance, Supervision and Discipline

  • Assist administration in the supervision of students in a variety of settings
  • Administer discipline related to student misconduct/attendance in accordance with District policy and standards and under the direction of an assistant principal
  • Monitor completion of assigned discipline, such as after school detention, in school suspension
  • Compile statistical data related to student attendance and discipline
  • Facilitate communications with parents of students experiencing attendance/behavior difficulties
  • Assist in the administration of the Becca Bill requirements which may include representing the school in court, communication with parents, and interactions with teachers
  • Work closely with campus supervisors for increasing student attendance

Facilities Management

  • Assist in pre-assembly preparations of the Gym or PAC before, during, or after school as needed for student activities and other school events
  • Assist in scheduling the use and setup of the athletic facilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time using a computer and telephone, walk for extended periods of time both indoors and outdoors, and stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to hot, cold, humid or windy conditions caused by weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion
  • Ability to perceive the nature of sound, have near/far visual acuity, gauge depth perception, provide oral information, and operate business related equipment

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

This position is that of Dean of Students and is represented by the MEA collective bargaining unit.  The position of dean of students will work a schedule in coordination with the District student calendar.  Salary and benefits as determined by the current collective bargaining agreement. Both day/evening and week day/weekend hours are required.

 

EVALUATION PROCEDURES:

Performance shall be evaluated annually according to Board and administrative policies and procedures.
