The Fire Plans Examiner II reports to the Chief Plans Examiner. The primary job duties of this position include:

Candidates for a Plans Examiner II Fire/Building must possess the following requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
- Licensed Professional Engineer, EIT, or Registered Architect.
- Experience within a building and planning environment preferred
- Fire Plan Review experience preferred.
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job classification.
- Valid Driver's License.
The pay range for a Plans Examiner II is $36 to $60 per hour.
Plans Examiner II level is an at-will position and is FLSA non-exempt, which means it is eligible for overtime compensation. This position has the potential to work remotely, although office and local site visits will be required.

Examples of Job Functions
Reviews and approves plans and specifications of proposed buildings, structures, and site developments. Review engineering calculations and evaluate layout and design proposals to ensure compliance with policies, standards, procedures, and codes. Authorizes the issuance of Fire Department permits.
Provides instruction, advice, and guidance to subordinates and associates on the proper methods of reviewing designs for buildings, fire protection, and life safety systems. Assists in developing plan checking and inspection policy. Assists the inspection staff regarding more technical code interpretations and problems.
Consults with and advises architects, engineers, developers, property owners, and contractors regarding interpretation and conformity with codes and regulations. Evaluates performance-based engineering proposals for fire and building code equivalencies and makes determinations as to effectiveness of achieving anticipated results.
Advises and assists private and public organizations in safeguarding life and property against fire, explosion, and related hazards. Studies industrial, mercantile, and public buildings, and other property before construction, considering such factors as, fire resistance of construction, occupancies and storage array of contents in buildings, water supplies and delivery, and egress requirements.
Reviews materials or equipment, such as building components protection, fire-detection equipment, fire alarm systems, and fire extinguishing devices and systems, and advises on location, design, installation, and maintenance. Reviews materials, equipment, or methods for alleviation of conditions conducive to fire.
