What are the responsibilities and job description for the Evening Custodian position at Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School?
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (Any one position may not include all of the listed duties, nor do all of the listed examples include all tasks that may be found in positions within this classification.):
1.Assist in maintaining HVAC rooftop units (which include changing filters and/or belts) and all other major mechanical equipment.
2.Perform cleaning and related activities such as removing debris or snow (shovel, plow, & sand) from walkways, driveways, parking areas, and stairways, as needed, using hand-operated tools or small power equipment. May be required to do so outside normal working hours, i.e. weekends, holidays, daytime, evenings, etc.
3.Participates in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
4.Carpentry: May assist the Evening Maintenance Technician when needed.
5.Electrical: Replace light bulbs as needed in the absence of the Evening Maintenance Technician and or assist if needed.
6.Plumbing: May need at times to plunge toilets. May assist the Maintenance Technician with unclogging sewer drains and lines with the use of machinery.
7.Painting: applies and prepares various surfaces for paint, enamel, lacquer, varnish, or stain; removes or paints over graffiti; repairs wall coverings.
8.Grounds Maintenance: Maintains grounds in a clean and orderly manner including mowing, trimming; if necessary; weeds; trims tree branches that create hazardous situations; maintains fire lanes around buildings and property; may clean debris/trash from grounds, and pathways, and parking lots; maintains mowers and other related grounds equipment. Snow removal is required, willing to learn how to run equipment if needed.
9.Safety/Security/Sanitation: Responds to, reports, and removes any safety hazards; reports and repairs damage to school site property; reports unauthorized visitors; secures gates, doors, windows, and grounds; sets alarm system; responds to emergency cleanups such as spills and clogged drains.
10.Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors, vacuum, and shampoo carpets.
11.Perform general cleaning on an as-needed basis.
12.Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. Use as directed.
13.Move furniture, equipment, supplies, and tools as required.
14.Assists in the setup and breakdown of tables and chairs for functions.
15.Attend safety meetings and other related meetings.
16.Handle recycling materials.
17.Report immediately any damage or repairs needed to school property; including buildings, vehicles, and equipment to the Shift Supervisor and/or Director of Facilities.
18.Assist with inventory control and security, as directed.
19.Safely operate all vehicles and other job-related equipment.
20.Assume responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and determine, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
21.Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
22.May choose the option to attain/maintain the proper licensure to occasionally drive for selected school runs including field trips, athletic drop-offs, late bus routes, etc.
23.May be required to run errands to conduct school business; pick up or delivery of: supplies & materials, equipment, or to fulfill postal needs.
24.Other duties that may be assigned by the Shift Supervisor, Director of Facilities, or Superintendent-Director.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:Duties will be performed inside the school buildings, on the grounds of the campus, and off-site (as needed). The individual may be exposed to chemicals that are used in daily custodial and maintenance responsibilities. The individual may be exposed to various hazards at work sites or while driving.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:This is a 12-month position, 40 hours per week. Salary as per the Maintenance and Custodial Workers Agreement. Fringe benefits will be in accordance with the District Benefits Policy for Custodian/Maintenance Staff.
EVALUATION:The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the School Committee Policy in regard to support staff.
