What are the responsibilities and job description for the Experienced Taxi/Rental Crane Operator position at Montana Crane Service, Ltd.?
Montana Crane Service is seeking qualified and experienced crane operators for our rental/taxi crane business. We are a small family owned crane and rigging company based out of Bozeman, Montana and have been serving Southwest Montana since 1983. We perform a large variety of work in residential, commercial and industrial settings. Our work is considered "taxi crane" or "rental" work, where operators may be on several jobsites and running several different pieces of equipment in the same day.
The duties of this job include, but are not limited to:
Cranes:
- Safely, accurately and efficiently operating cranes in accordance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations
- Understanding and regular review of all standards of crane operation
- Inspecting and maintaining cranes and all rigging, including completing required daily, weekly, and monthly inspections
- Calculating weights of beams, logs, steel, and other objects to be lifted when weights are not given
- Determining which crane is able to safely and most efficiently complete a given job
- Maintaining daily inspection forms for the truck and crane
- Making safe and timely delivery of cranes to specified destinations
- Checking work area at job site for hazards and dealing with them appropriately
- Checking set area for outrigger stability
- Maneuvering crane safely at job site, including independent set up and tear down of cranes (no rigger or oiler on most jobs unless extra counterweight/rigging/jib is required)
- Rigging or supervising rigging of objects to be lifted
- Instructing employees of customers at the job site on what is expected of them
- Safely lifting and setting objects according to customer specifications within site and crane limitations
- Maintaining inventory of rigging assigned to the crane being operated
- Keeping assigned cranes clean, including motor, drive train, body, cab interior, and windows
Yard:
- Maintaining vehicles used in safe working order
- Performing safety and preventative maintenance checks on vehicles
- Lubricating, fueling, changing tires, steam cleaning and performing minor repairs on vehicles
- Helping to maintain the work area
- Returning all tools to their proper place
- Assisting with various yard activities
General:
- Handling customer relations and crane related questions
- Reporting to and communicating with coworkers/supervisors
- Developing and keeping a personal calendar or scheduling method to ensure all job duties are completed promptly
- Making suggestions for the improvement of operations
- Completing all paperwork related to the job including time cards, safety records, invoices, job cost records, health insurance forms, retirement forms, various inquiries and other miscellaneous forms
- Reading all safety material pertinent to the job
- Participating in educational and safety programs
- Acting courteously and conducting oneself in a reasonable and businesslike manner
- Maintaining a presentable appearance
- Using good judgment and common sense to act independently toward the job objective
- Performing other miscellaneous duties as assigned
Other Qualifications:
- MINIMUM two years experience as licensed crane operator performing similar duties as listed above
- Current Montana 1st Class Crane Hoist or 1st Class Hydraulic Hoist operator license or ability to immediately pass the tests to obtain this license, or valid NCCCO certifications and verifiable experience (1000 hours on cranes over 17-ton capacity) to reciprocate to a Montana license
- Current Class A CDL with proper endorsements (Air brakes required, doubles/triples preferred)
