The Director of Recruiting oversees Montana State University–Northern’s Office of Recruiting and leads the development and execution of strategies to achieve the university’s enrollment goals. The Recruiting Office is a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment that seeks to engage prospective students, their families, and other stakeholders to showcase the exceptional quality education that MSUN provides. This position operates under the supervision of the Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Management.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct the development, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination of the yearly recruitment plan.
- Provide guidance and support for the recruiting staff in day-to-day functions, including recruitment trip planning and relationship building with schools, prospective students, and their families.
- Coordinate processes and activities that ensure prospective students receive timely and exemplary service during the recruiting and admissions processes.
- Analyze recruitment opportunities and application/enrollment trends by compiling and interpreting reports on feeder high schools, transfer institutions, demographic patterns, and the effectiveness of marketing and advertising strategies.
- Represent the university at career and college fairs, community and high school recruitment presentations, and campus visitor events.
- Organize or assist with related special events and projects (e.g., open house, visit days, etc.).
- Develop and implement customer relationship management (CRM) communication plans for prospective students; coordinate CRM communication between recruitment and admissions.
- Provide information, guidance, and customer service to students and families throughout the recruiting, admissions, and enrollment cycle, responding to inquiries promptly and professionally.
- Participate in all phases of personnel management, including the selection, supervision, training, and evaluation of classified and professional staff, as well as student ambassadors.
- Collaborate with other student service departments to carry out the philosophy of a student-centered institution.
- Collaborate with marketing staff to develop and implement consistent messaging and effective outreach to attract prospective students.
- Collaborate with academic programs—including deans and faculty—to set, evaluate, and achieve enrollment goals established for each program.
- Communicate effectively and present to a variety of constituents.
- Travel for the recruitment of prospective students.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the institution’s mission.
- Bachelor’s degree
- A current and valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a current and valid Montana driver’s license
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Communication, Business, Human Resources, Marketing, Graphic Design, Management, Community Leadership, Educational Leadership, or other relevant area.
- Three or more years progressive experience in HR/recruiting, marketing, sales, and/or higher education services (e.g., admissions, financial aid).
- Demonstrated success building relationships with schools, industry representatives, or other external entities.
- Demonstrated experience with program planning, coordination, implementation, and training.
- Experience using data to inform planning and decision-making.
- Demonstrated experience in social media marketing, customer relationship management systems (Anthology Reach, Radius, Salesforce, etc.), and/or other customer engagement technologies.
- Demonstrated strong communication and organizational skills.
- Supervisory Experience.

- Demonstrate effective time management skill and ability to meet deadlines
- Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other software programs
Must be able to work in an office and travel with or without reasonable accommodations. Approximately two thirds of the time is spent in a typical office environment; the other third of the time is traveling during recruiting.
