University Business Services (UBS) provides accounting and business services for the instructional, research, and administrative components of Montana State University. As part of the UBS team, the Student Accounts Office assists students in meeting their financial obligation to the University.
This position performs cashiering work and is responsible for the accurate processing of student payments and departmental cash receipts, and the resultant deposit of funds in the bank.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Process Student Tuition Payments: review accounts, process and post payments of cash, checks and credit cards.
- Process Department Deposits: review cash receipts for accuracy and resolve discrepancies, post receipts of cash, checks and credit cards.
- Manage Cash: balance drawer and vault, process expense reimbursements from petty cash, set up temporary cash drawers for departments, prepare and send daily deposits to bank.
- Customer Service: respond to inquiries from students/parents regarding tuition and fees, direct students to appropriate offices for service.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
- General office or clerical work experience which includes cashiering, detailed record keeping responsibilities, and dealing with the public or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- Experience reconciling cash, checks, and credit cards to data input, recording and proofing detailed information with a high level of accuracy as well as identifying and correcting errors.
- Experience with providing exceptional customer service in an office or professional setting and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and establish and maintain positive working relationships with a diverse range of individuals such as students, employees, and the public.
- Experience using a personal computer for data entry as well as experience using spreadsheet, word processing and e-mail software.
- Experience operating various office equipment such as a calculator, credit card terminal, and copier.
