The Program Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the College of Letters & Science 101/201 Seminar classes and the Liberal Studies program, including student and faculty affairs, fiscal and human resource management, and enrollment management.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Program Manager reports to two different Directors, both of whom are part-time in their respective positions. As a result, the Program Manager is required to work independently with very little supervision, act on behalf of the directors and make decisions in their absence, and be able to utilize professional knowledge, judgment, and skills. The Program Manager is required to efficiently juggle multiple priorities and deadlines while keeping the program directors apprised of any issues or problems that may arise.

- Serving as the first point of contact for student and faculty issues, escalating to Director(s) as needed.
- Hiring, training, and supervising the half-time Distance Education Program Manager for the Liberal Studies Online program, including filling in for absence or vacancy.
- Managing enrollment needs, including ordering applicable books and supplies, course scheduling with the Registrar, etc.
- Partnering with campus shared services (Budget, Fiscal, Human Resources) to manage expenses and budgets, maintain Non-Tenure Track recruitment pools, initiate teaching contracts, onboard new employees, etc.
- Promoting student success, retention, and recruitment efforts such as assisting with MSU Fridays and Orientation, creating and distributing course and program materials, and maintaining best practices for overall student success.
- Recruiting, training, and supervising Student Fellows.
- Organizing and scheduling special events, classes, and meetings.
- Developing and distributing course materials and publicity, maintaining program websites, and overseeing faculty and course shells via learning management systems like D2L and Canvas.
- Knowledgeable in MSU policies and processes, FERPA requirements, and mandatory reporting obligations.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree and experience in a program management/coordination or administrative support position or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing/managing multiple programs or projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated experience working cooperatively with a wide variety of clientele.
- Demonstrated supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
- Demonstrated working knowledge of fiscal policies, procedures and processes.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of human resource functions.
- Student or employee conduct experience.
