Overview
The school psychologist collaborates with local district administrators and schoolbased leadership teams on MTSS activities. This includes participation in problemsolving teams and requires knowledge of data collection and analysis, curriculumbased assessments, and tiered system changes and increased student outcomes. They may be assigned to leadership or support roles on school teams. As a member of intervention and special education teams, school psychologists play a significant role in the MTSS process. The School Psychologist can support the local district with system change.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments and diagnostic evaluations for students with diverse needs.
- Provide individual and group psychotherapy, focusing on emotional regulation, social skills, and coping strategies.
- Collaborate with teachers and special education staff to develop individualized education plans (IEPs) that address students' psychological and educational needs.
- Implement crisis intervention strategies for students in distress or facing significant challenges.
- Offer case management services to ensure students receive appropriate support from various resources.
- Engage in child family counseling sessions to foster positive relationships and communication between students and their families.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation of assessments, interventions, and progress.
- Utilize knowledge of medical terminology in communication with healthcare professionals when necessary.
- Participate in school meetings, workshops, and training sessions to stay updated on best practices in school psychology.
Certification/ Qualifications:
- Michigan Certification as School Psychologist OR
- A Fully licensed psychologist through Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) OR
- Preliminary School Psychologist Certification
