INTRODUCTION
The Montefiore Einstein Division of Hepatology was founded in 2007 under the leadership of Allan W. Wolkoff, M.D. with the aim of developing a clinical liver program charged with establishing a new multidisciplinary liver transplantation group that would synergize with the activities of the Marion Bessin Liver Research Center. This has resulted in development of a highly regarded Comprehensive Liver Program that includes specialists in hepatology, oncology, surgery, radiology, psychiatry, pediatric gastroenterology, and family medicine. Cutting-edge treatments for liver disease are available to patients, including advanced clinical trials, novel therapeutic approaches to complex problems, and liver transplantation.
CLINICAL ACTIVITIES
The goals of the Montefiore Einstein Division of Hepatology encompass and bridge important areas of science and medicine with the goal of providing new insights and therapeutic options for our many patients with liver disease as well as training the next generation of clinicians and researchers. The Division of Hepatology provides state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment of liver diseases and bridges basic and clinical research efforts.
RESEARCH
Our outlook is multidisciplinary, as the liver has important roles in many aspects of human health. Projects in collaboration with other divisions and departments have been in place for many years and are strongly encouraged. We have established a robust liver transplantation program with patient outcomes that are among the best in the world.
TRAINING
The Division is responsible for medical student, resident, and fellowship training in Hepatology. We offer several options for post-graduate training in advanced hepatology care : (1) ACGME-accredited Transplant Hepatology Fellowship; (2) ACGME-accredited Combined Gastroenterology & Transplant Hepatology Fellowship; (3) Non-ACGME-accredited Hepatology Fellowship.
POSITION PROFILE
Montefiore Medical Center & Albert Einstein College of Medicine seek a physician with unique vision, enthusiasm, and experience to serve as Chief of the Division of Hepatology. The ideal candidate is an academic physician with expertise in applying new knowledge to the practice of clinical medicine and a track record of scholarship and leadership. Candidates must possess the qualities required to be a successful leader in a complex multidisciplinary environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Candidates for the position of Chief, Division of Hepatology will be selected from a pool reflecting broadly defined diversity and will be evaluated according to the following criteria :
- Outstanding personal academic accomplishments and credentials within Hepatology.
- A history of academic leadership and reputation.
- Administrative and leadership experience to ensure the continued excellence and enhancement of the clinical, research, and educational missions of the Division.
- Financial and business acumen.
- An M.D. degree and Board Certification in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
