Montefiore Medical Center's Division of Clinical Pathology is responsible for the laboratory testing of blood, urine, and body fluids for disease diagnosis and health maintenance. Utilizing the latest advances in computer technology, the Division maintains millions of dollars of state-of-the-art automated equipment at its laboratory sites and services hospitals, nursing homes, the Montefiore Medical Group, faculty practices, and voluntary physicians' offices at more than 40 sites.
The Core Lab Manager, Anatomic Pathology oversees and coordinates operational and administrative activities. The position is responsible for developing and maintaining uniformity in the procedures and policies including personnel issues, disciplinary and union concerns and adherence to guidelines which are in compliance with accrediting agencies. The position will provide support in areas of technical expertise in departmental procedures. The individual will interact and work cooperatively with the various Pathology team members to meet the goals of the Department of Pathology.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure, maintain and implement protocols and procedures in cutting rooms, autopsy suites, histology, electron microscopy and immunohistochemistry laboratories
- Work and provide oversight to supervisors in the technical aspects’ anatomic pathology (cutting room, autopsy and cytology) for Hospital staff (Attending, clinicians, technical staff in Histology, Cytology, Cutting room)
- Oversee AP regulatory compliance and quality assurance/improvement programs, including data collection, alignment of policies with practices
- Assist with recruiting personnel, performance issues, address union matters. Maintain personnel folders and ensure competency testing and evaluations are performed and reported timely. Assist with development and revision of job descriptions
- Liaison with clinical pathology sections, other clinical departments, including outreach clients, in coordination with customer service staff and medical director
- Interact with non-clinical departments to identify and follow through on issues and problems as they arise
- Coordinate activities between all pathology areas with clinicians and hospital staff requiring assistance with specimen delivery to surgical pathology
- Interact with clinical areas to represent the Pathology department with technical and workflow issues
- Coordinate/monitor departmental QA/PI programs and activities
- Ordering lab supplies, reagents and instruments; maintain service/maintenance contracts
Qualifications:
- Master's Degree Medical Lab Sciences, Path Assistant required
- NYS Pathologists Assistant license required
- Technical experience in at least one major area of anatomic pathology laboratory required - Personnel management, Project planning, quantitative skills, budget, finance, QA
- Excellent communication required
- Must be familiar Word, Excel, PowerPoint
The standard hours for this position are Monday through Friday 8:00am – 4:30 pm.
