What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water Resources Assistant position at Monterey Peninsula Water Management District?
The Monterey Peninsula Water Management District (MPWMD) is responsible for regional water resource management on the Monterey Peninsula and Carmel Valley. The District’s mission is to promote or provide for a long-term sustainable water supply, and to manage and protect water resources for the benefit of the community and the environment.
MPWMD is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic individual to assist the District in steelhead monitoring and fish rescue and rearing programs on the Carmel River. In addition, Water Resources Assistant may assist in other aspects of the District’s environmental resources program.
Water Resources Assistant - $21 per hour (Part-time/Seasonal)
Closing Date: February 14th, 2025 *Deadline may be extended at the discretion of the District.
Interviews are tentatively scheduled for February 19th -26th 2025.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Assist in the operation of the adult steelhead monitoring Weir.
- Conducting Redd surveys and other river monitoring surveys.
- Assist in the steelhead rescue and rearing program.
- Maintenance and monitoring help with the District’s restoration projects.
- Entering data into Databases.
- Assist with equipment maintenance.
Qualifications:
Water Resources Assistant must have experience performing strenuous physical labor in an outdoor environment.
Hours and Availability:
Anticipated start date is late February or early March. This position requires weekend availability.
Working and Physical Conditions:
Field environment; work in and around water; exposure to noise, dust, fumes, poison oak, potential hazardous chemicals and inclement weather conditions. Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, lifting and carrying fish bucket up to 50 pounds; walking with buckets over uneven ground, sense of touch; finger dexterity and gripping with fingers and hands; limited repetitive motion. Candidate must see in the normal visual range with or without correction; specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, color perception, and depth perception; Hearing in the normal audio range with or without correction is required.
License or Certificate: Possession of valid California Driver’s License.
