Salary Range: $50,000 - $55,000 per year
Job Summary
The Montessori Academy of Colorado seeks a dedicated and experienced Special Education Teacher to support students in Kindergarten through 8th grade. The ideal candidate will be passionate about helping students succeed academically and have a strong background in early literacy and fundamental math. The teacher will collaborate closely with other educators and work directly with students to provide individualized instruction and support. Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide tailored educational support to students in kindergarten through 8th grade who require additional support or special education services
- Implement strategies and interventions to support early literacy and fundamental math skills development
- Apply knowledge of the Science of Reading, Orton-Gillingham, Heggerty methods to support students with diverse learning needs
- Work collaboratively with general education teachers, specialists, and other school staff to create and adapt lesson plans, modify instructional materials, and monitor student progress
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of student performance, behavior, and IEP (Individualized Education Plan) goals
- Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders about student progress and needs
- Participate in IEP meetings, providing input and insights based on student data and observations
- Serve as the MTSS coordinator and work closely with the Lower and Upper School Directors and the School Psychologist to assess student intervention needs
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that promotes student growth and confidence
- Stay current with best practices in special education and maintain required certifications and training
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field required
- Science of Reading and Orton-Gillingham trained preferred
- Experience teaching early literacy and fundamental math concepts at various grade levels (K-8)
- Familiarity with Montessori pedagogy and practices is ideal
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with excellent record-keeping abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to connect effectively with students, families, and colleagues
- Collaborative team player with the ability to work across various roles and levels within the school community
- Flexible and responsive to the unique needs of each student
