Additionally, they should have an interest and enthusiasm for Montessori pedagogy and be certified or seeking certification.
The Role:
MCS RI is currently looking for substitute teachers. We are open 12 months a year, Monday - Friday, from 7:45 am to 5:15 pm. The ideal candidate will be caring, warm, flexible, and calm with young children as our programs run from 18 months to 5 years old. Opportunities to cover full school days and partial school days exist.
Responsibilities may include:
Substitute Teacher Responsibilities
- Collaborate with other teachers in the classroom in establishing and maintaining a harmonious classroom environment
- Support teacher during class time by aiding children who need support and gently guiding and redirecting as needed
- Develop positive relationships with children and families
- Model positive, prosocial behavior in order to guide children to work cooperatively
Overall Responsibilities:
- Clean and sanitize all materials used according to cleaning schedule
- Maintain a neat and orderly room
- Present a joyful professional demeanor with all community members
- Maintain confidentiality of all students and families
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Experience or education in: art education, art, early education and/or elementary education, STEAM training, child development, music, environmental science/education or other relevant or related fields
- Previous experience working with children ages 18 months - 6 years old
- BCI and fingerprinting (required before start date)
- CPR/First Aid training
- English /Spanish Fluency a plus, but not required
- Show familiarity with RI Early Learning Standards, certification a plus
- Interest in learning about Montessori pedagogy and philosophy
- Show a commitment to the MCS RI mission, social justice, and education reform
