Job Title: Floater Assistant
Montessori Torah Academy asssistants aid the lead teachers in establishing a welcoming classroom where each child feels cared for and respected. The learning environment is student-centered and self-paced, allowing children to explore their own interests while mastering skills and knowledge. Our Montessori program lays the groundwork for academic success by emphasizing critical thinking, problem-solving, independent focus and working in collaboration with others.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Help maintain a learning environment that is clean, organized, and enticing for young learners.
- Use behavior management techniques individually tailored to each child and promote classroom normalization. Willingness to train in Collaborative Problem Solving through the school is a must.
- Support and follow the lead teacher's guidance when helping in the classroom.
- Support each child’s full development socially, mentally, physically and emotionally.
- Maintain positive relationships and communications with parents and peers.
- Actively participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Love, patience, and respect for children.
- Knowledge of Montessori principles and materials preferred.
- Knowledge of early childhood development or classroom management experience.
- Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational and time management skills.
- Collaborates effectively with colleagues/co-teacher.
- Floater assistants must be flexible, they must be ready to help classrooms as needed. This will vary between toddler, primary and elementary classroom.
- Preferred Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma (or GED); some post high school education in early childhood development or similar field preferred.
- Experience in a classroom environment is a MUST.
Physical Requirements:
- Be able to lift up to 25 pounds: Move a child during an emergency; lift/carry child to quiet area if needed.
- Be able to run: Reach a child quickly / protect a child during an emergency; participate in physical play with children to keep them engaged.
- Be able to sit on the floor: Assistant must be able to interact with children on their level. Assistant must be physically able to get off the floor and sit back down easily.
- Stamina: Assistant must be able to maintain the same level of energy throughout the day.
- Activities: Able to participate in outdoor and indoor activities.
