Job Description
Montgomery College, Germantown campus, has an immediate need for a Full-time Job Opportunity and Development Specialist in the Business, Information Technology, Transportation, and Public Safety department. The work schedule is Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. This is a Non- Bargaining, Non-exempt, Grade 27 position. For non-exempt positions, you are not eligible to work a secondary job at Montgomery College. Montgomery College promotes and creates a working and learning environment rooted in the basic tenets of fairness, belonging, and inclusiveness. This position is currently eligible for telework {1} day a week. This eligibility is subject to change based on the needs of the unit.
This is a temporary position with benefits funded through September 30, 2026. Employment continuation beyond this period is contingent upon need and funding.
Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Review employment and regional labor data, including participation/eligibility requirements, job requirements, and training requirements, to inform program instruction and curriculum development.
  • Match job skills with applicant qualifications, refer applicants to employment, and conduct follow-ups when applications are placed in positions.
  • Collaborate with unit staff to track program completers, and assist learners in their transition to the workforce and/or educational opportunities.
  • Engage with businesses and industry representatives, as well as job placement/training agencies, to promote training programs and facilitate participant job placement.
  • Work with new and established business partners to develop and expand internships and other relevant opportunities, such as group interviews, site visits, and mentoring programs.
  • Connect participants to program partners (e.g., American Job Center, community-based organizations), and support services to eliminate barriers to student participation and completion of training programs.
  • Research internet, newspaper, agencies, and other resources for job leads, locating jobs for participants who have successfully completed training programs.
  • Maintain records placement and progress towards work goals. Collect, compile, and generate reports and statistics on program activities.
  • Develop and implement strategies to recruit students to the program and increase participation.
  • Plan and conduct workshops for students on career choices, employability skills, résumé writing, and interviewing.
  • Develop and conduct classroom presentations to student and alumni groups on topics such as résumé writing, job interviewing, career management, skill development and cover letter preparation.
  • Work with students to develop or edit résumés, practice interviewing, assess job readiness and determine employment goals.
  • Advise and demonstrate the use of technology – including the College job search database – to assist students and alumni in finding full and part-time jobs and internships.
  • Represent the college at external events such as job fairs, career development workshops, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling, career development, business administration, education, or a related field providing an understanding of the field or the equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience (including speaking in public, making presentations and conducting workshops) in the placement of populations with little or no employment experience into appropriate jobs, in working with students, faculty, employers and community organizations in identifying available job opportunities, and/or in facilitating workshops on all aspects of the job search process.
  • Strong understanding of career development practices, job search strategies, résumé writing, and interview techniques.
  • Experience using systems to track student placements in cooperative education and internships.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to conduct workshops, make public presentations, and engage with diverse audiences.
  • Proficient in internet research and software applications, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Advise students on career management topics, design and lead workshops, and work independently to achieve program objectives.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in counseling, career development, business administration, or education or related field.
  • Fluency in another language strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of population to be served, including immigrant community needs and issues, those in need of language and literacy instruction, and those with learning disabilities.
  • Experience with the content area (Cloud Technologies, Computer Networks, Cybersecurity, Data Analysis).
  • Global Career Development Facilitator or similar career development certification.
Hiring Range: $30.47 to $39.60/hourly. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range and is based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity. The maximum salary for this position is $48.74/hourly.
