The anticipated salary range for this position is $77,738.00 to $99,665.67.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

DHHS Public Health Services Division is currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated Public Health Nurse to join our Maternal Child Health team at our Germantown (MD) Health Center. The Health Center is staffed by Nurses, Community Health Workers and Administrative staff with the primary goal of improving outcomes for high-risk pregnant women and newborns through home-based case management in Upper Montgomery County.

What You'll Be Doing

The Maternal Health Community Health Nurse II will:

  • Provides home-based nurse case management services to pregnant women and their newborns.
  • Conducts screenings and health assessments of pregnant women and newborns for health/social needs and develops comprehensive case management plans to address identified medical, social, and behavioral health needs.
  • Provide prenatal classes and one on one counseling for clients on topics such as pregnancy, labor and delivery, postpartum, family planning, breastfeeding, newborn care and child growth and development to optimize outcomes for the women, her newborn and the family.
  • Works with a multidisciplinary team to support pregnant women, their families and the community to reduce barriers to care and health disparities in the marginalized populations in the County.
  • Provide home visiting services within the County in own car with mileage reimbursed.
  • Provide immunizations to children at the immunization clinic on a rotating basis.
  • Serve as a member of the multidisciplinary team to meet the health and social needs of individuals, families and the community.
  • Utilizes Electronic Health Record to document all clinical and case management activities

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Two (2) years of full-time equivalent post-licensure experience as a RN Nurse, one year of which must have been in the nursing area working with Maternal Child Health Nursing.

Education:
Graduation from a National League for Nursing accredited college or university or an equivalent program as determined by the Maryland Board of Examiners with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

Equivalency:
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

License:
  • Possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Maryland State, of Maryland issued by the Maryland Board of Examiners is required at the time of appointment. If the license is temporary, a regular Maryland RN license must be obtained within ninety (90) days of appointment.

  • The State of Maryland accepts as valid the current RN licensure from a candidate's primary state of residence if that state has an interstate compact with Maryland. The states having this interstate compact are Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin. (This equivalency only applies to candidates whose primary residence is not Maryland). Any Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) applying for licensure and living in a member state of the Multistate Licensure Compact must take the NCLEX exam in their home state.

Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences

Preference for interview will be given to qualified candidates with experience in the following areas:

  • Two or more years nursing experience in Maternal Child Health or Pediatrics.
  • Two or more years in a Public Health setting such as a health center or clinic, specialty in acute care *(areas below)
  • Experience in providing home visiting services with pregnant women and children under the age of two
  • Knowledgeable of the community-based resources in Montgomery County serving indigent populations.
