What You'll Be Doing
- This Position requires knowledge of the LTCOP in accordance with the Older American Act.
- The position advocates for County residents by interfacing with nursing homes, group homes, assisted living facilities, staff, residents, and family of residents for the betterment of the aging population.
- This position provides leadership that involves day-to-day resolution of complex problems to reduce barriers to services and teamwork.
- The position provides staff supervision, implements regulations and procedures, and is accountable for the effectiveness of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program.
- The position manages nine merit staff responsible for complaint investigations and resolutions for over 7,800 Long Term Care (LTC) beds in the County. The merit staffs conduct weekly facility visits, develop in-service training for facility staff related to health care issues, and organize family councils.
- The program also recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers in 34 nursing homes and over 200 assisted living facilities. Volunteers investigates and resolves complaints from facilities' residents and families. The program manager must ensure that the staff and volunteers have the necessary knowledge, skills and training to facilitate complaint resolution.
- This position requires proven oral and written communication skills that include exercising tact and diplomacy where needed.
- This position requires excellent organizational skills, knowledge of LTC regulatory environment, and the ability to anticipate and adapt to changes in all areas of management, personnel, policy and regulations.
- In addition to the duties above, this position represents the County at Statewide· Ombudsman meetings and serves on several taskforces addressing LTC residents' rights, the protection of vulnerable adults and end of life care and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Preferred Criteria
- A bachelor’s degree in Human Services
- At least three to five years of managerial experiences within a Health and Human Service Agency or related field
- At least five years of experience leading volunteer efforts: recruitment, retention, training, supervision, and recognition
- Long Term Care Ombudsman certification
- Five years of practical knowledge of resolving complaints and mediation strategies.
- Five years of knowledge on policies and federal guidelines directing the work of Long-Term Care Ombudsman.
