Who We Are Looking For
The Department is seeking a dynamic & experienced, full time Recreation Coordinator whose skills and knowledge can be utilized to support a wide range of programs and services for the Youth Development team. The goal of the Youth Development team is to keep young people healthy, productive and connected during out of school time through a full range of out of school time recreational, leisure and youth development activities. Activities include (but are not limited to) after-school programs, special events, summer camps, workforce and professional development programs and activities, sports leagues and related learning opportunities for youth, school-aged children through late adolescence.
What You'll Be Doing
The Recreation Coordinator will be responsible for professional work involving planning, organizing, administering, coordinating and facilitating a variety of community and specialized recreation programs, activities and/or events, requiring an understanding of and experience in working with youth. This position will supervise, motivate and coach youth employees and connect youth to meaningful work and enrichment projects.

The Recreation Coordinator position will be supervised by Recreation Supervisors and stationed at the Youth Development administrative office. Scheduling for this position will vary but requires the availability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and non-traditional work hours to support program. It may require work that involves physical demands, occasionally working outdoors in varying weather and extreme temperatures; and the ability to occasionally attend meetings or perform work at locations outside the assigned facility.

The selected candidate will be required to complete a background investigation and a limited core exam prior to appointment .
To ensure a positive workplace and to comply with federal, state and County laws, the incumbent is responsible for completing mandatory trainings within the first three to six months or within the specified timeframe .
Offsite work is required; Weekend or evening hours are required; No telework eligibility for this position.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: One (1) year of recreation work experience involving planning, organizing, and directing recreational activities or special interest recreation program activities/services.
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree . Equivalency : An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

- Assisting with program registration using recreation software systems, and maintaining program and related records.
- Instructing and leading recreation programs and activities as required.
- Facilitating outreach, social equity, and inclusion for vulnerable and/or under- and un-represented populations.
- Assist the Recreation Specialist in program implementation.
- Adhering to budget and expenditure guidelines, tracking, and monitoring financial records.
- Providing regular updates, reports, and program evaluations.
- Maintaining active contact with community groups, organizations, and individuals.
- Maintaining open and effective lines of communication with supervisors and other management staff.
- Fostering a positive labor relations environment based on mutual trust, respect, and cooperation;
- Maintaining stability of seasonal employees by modeling desired behaviors through consistent and positive work ethic, and by advocating on behalf of the management team; and
- Motivating and providing direction and guidance to employees through clear articulation of work projects, goals and related services.
