SUMMARY

The Director of Immigrant Affairs for the Montgomery County, Pennsylvania will support and enhance the economic, civic, and social integration of immigrant communities across Montgomery County. Reporting to the Chief DEI Officer, the Director of Immigrant Affairs will work to ensure access to resources and programs, collaborate with federal, state, local, and international governing bodies, nonprofit organizations, and community stakeholders on immigration issues, programs and policies. Advocate for continued immigration reforms at all levels of government in order to eliminate inequities to make Montgomery County a welcoming county for immigrants, refugees and existing residents alike, and to serve as a hub for accurate information and education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promote and educate policy makers, departments and the community on the needs and priorities of immigrant populations.
  • Work with other County departments to develop and support innovative programs to strengthen the County's immigrant communities.
  • Lead a cross-functional / multi-departmental effort to coordinate County-wide immigrant activities and to generate positive outcomes.
  • Lead immigration reforms at all levels of County government in order to eliminate inequities.
  • Work with County departments and contracted service providers to develop and implement language access plans and ensure the accessibility of all County services for Limited English Proficient individuals.
  • Create and manage a referral center, providing information and contacts with other community organizations serving immigrants across Montgomery County.
  • Actively build long term relationship with many stakeholders in the County and the larger immigrant community.
  • Work with County Leadership to develop and support County policies, programs and regulations that enhances the lives of immigrant communities.
  • Support racial justice initiatives for equity and access.
  • Create reports / analysis of County programs, policies and regulations focusing on their impact on immigrant communities.
  • Serve as the County's primary point of information on immigrant affairs.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Required Education and Experience :

  • Four-year college degree in International Relations, Political Science, Law, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years in program, policy, and legislative advocacy. Two years working in immigration or refugee programs or policy development, such as language access or citizenship.
  • Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.

  • Demonstrated ability and experience supporting inclusive engagement and racial diversity.
  • Experience with change management leading to successful results.
  • Ability to analyze and create reports on policy and program impacts.
  • nowledge and experience in community engagement practices and techniques.
  • Demonstrated skills and abilities in developing, implementing, and managing projects.
  • Ability to speak a foreign language (specifically Spanish) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of or prior experience working in local, state, or federal government is preferred.
  • Ability to represent and make presentations on behalf of the County to elected officials, community leaders, residents, business, media, religion and faith organizations.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Light physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Comfortable working conditions but with some exposure to stress from problem-solving and liaising across departments and communities.
