Summary Description Of Classification
Under the direction of the director of the Division of Pupil Personnel Services, the PPW uses knowledge of MCPS programs and community resources, and utilizes a collaborative process with administrators, school staff, and other MCPS central office staff members, to assist in determining resources, strategies, interventions, and recommended placements for students who are not experiencing success in school. Serves as an advocate for students and their families to access appropriate services. Acts at case manager for identified students to ensure the proper intervention implementation, data collection, progress monitoring, and program changes. Serves as liaison with school system, local community and government service providers. Physical Demands: None Special Requirements: Availability for evening meetings as necessary and telephone calls related to crisis response/situations.

If assigned to a high school, work day could start as early as 7:00 a.m. Willingness to do home visits in the community is a requirement. The wage range for this position is a salary between $73,505 and $149,617 based on education and experience. Knowledge Skills Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the school system, its policies, regulations, and procedures, and its programs and resources; knowledge of the dynamics of adolescent behavior, behavior management, and interpersonal relationships. Knowledge of instructional programs. Excellent skills in human relations, communication, problem solving, conflict resolution, and case management. Knowledge of county, state and federal requirements applicable to special populations; Skilled in the collection, monitoring, and analysis of data. Ability to productively collaborate with other MCPS units as well as local and county agencies.
Education Training Experience
Masters degree from an accredited college or university with course work in human growth and development, counseling techniques, social casework, analysis of individuals and aptitude testing. Three years satisfactory experience as a classroom teacher, two of which may be a combination of applicable education, training, and experience which provides the knowledge, ability, and skills necessary to perform effectively.Certificate License:Meets Maryland certification requirements for pupil personnel worker.
