SUMMARY DESCRIPTION : Under general supervision, trains school bus attendants / operators in vehicle operation and all other aspects of position responsibilities. Workers evaluate operator performance and provide classroom instruction in defensive driving techniques and safety related subjects.CERTIFICATE LICENSE : Possession of a valid Maryland State Commercial Class B driver's license (or equivalent) with air brake, passenger, and school bus endorsements.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES : Working knowledge of student transportation system and school bus attendant / operator duties and requirements. Skill providing training to school bus attendants / operators. Can demonstrate knowledge of requirements for local and state school bus driver and other commercial class vehicle driver licensing and certification and related school personnel and transportation policies and regulations. Skilled in common communication methods, reading, writing, and communicating orally, and understanding and carrying out written and oral instructions. Ability to use office software such as Word, Excel, Power Point. Ability to read and follow a road map. Good human relations skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE : High school diploma or GED required. Three years satisfactory service as a school bus operator required. Coursework in transportation, management, or other related field desirable. Experience in public speaking and / or classroom setting, working with instructional materials, virtual settings, and excellent interpersonal skills preferred.
