A DAY IN THE LIFE

In this pivotal role, you’ll play a key part in shaping and elevating our landfill leadership practice. You’ll work on a diverse array of exciting design projects for municipal and private facilities across the US. You will be responsible for a full range of activities including:

  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously including providing support to senior technical leads on projects, as applicable, and supervising staff level engineers, technicians, and CAD professionals.
  • Developing and compiling site-specific data to prepare technical reports and complete computer aided data analysis.
  • Overseeing project resourcing needs, assigning work, meeting completion dates, interpreting and ensuring consistent application of firm standards
  • Coordinating the day-to-day tasks of technical staff assigned to projects by assigning, monitoring and reviewing progress and accuracy of work, directing efforts and providing technical guidance.
  • Oversees development of project document deliverable outlines and layouts, technical writing of reports, data interpretation, and development of graphical presentations in a logical and professional manner.
  • Supporting senior leaders in consulting clients to prepare plans, reports, and assessments.
  • Taking Responsibility for project budget and hours and utilizing time effectively to complete tasks within assigned timeframe(s)
  • Acting as a client manager to understand customer needs and distributing work assignments and proposals to appropriate teams
  • Communicating to leadership when potential issues are foreseen, or potential issues arise that may inhibit performing tasks within the allotted schedule and budget
  • Overseeing project set up and authorization paperwork to include project authorizations, contracts, subcontracts, purchase order requests, and project schedules.
  • Overseeing project financial management duties to include project projections, project invoicing, subcontractor invoice approvals, progress reporting, and project/subcontractor contract compliance.
  • Maintaining confidentiality at all times
  • Exercising safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including attendance at all required safety training programs.
  • Participating in the company’s continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts.
  • Keep up-to-date and current on industry trends by completing formal training, reviewing professional publications, and attending professional workshops.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Specific Project – Related Responsibilities and Qualifications will include:

  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in engineering design software and environmental monitoring tools
  • Experience and expertise specific to design, operation, and maintenance of municipal solid waste landfills and other environmental construction with similar features such as waste containment cells, evaporation ponds, lined impoundments/lagoons, etc.
  • Ability to prepare permit documents, construction plans, and specifications for facilities including landfills, recycling facilities, transfer stations, and convenience centers.
  • Prepare Part B Permit Application Documents and associated permit documents for Industrial Facilities
  • Prepare permit documents, construction plans, and specifications for remedial actions related to Voluntary, RCRA, and CERCLA clean-up actions.
  • Prepare SWPPPs, SPCC Plans, and ARAP Applications
  • Prepare construction cost estimates and financial assurance estimates.
  • Conduct Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments


Your Expertise And Skills

To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Possess a Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to sit for the license within 1 year.
  • 8 years of related experience
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering principles with an emphasis on those related to design and construction of landfills and similar structures to include, but not limited to geotechnical/soil design, slope stability and materials interface, geosynthetic design and installation, construction and quality assurance.
  • Knowledge of computer aided software (Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, AutoCAD, ArcGIS etc.)
  • Ability to complete and maintain HAZWOPER certification with the 40-hour HAZWOPER environmental health and safety class, and annual 8-hour refresher class
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Outgoing / team player with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Strong organizational and management skills
  • Proficient in Civil 3d, HydroCad, Associated Programs and Analysis would be a plus

WORK CONDITIONS

The work environment may vary greatly depending on the nature of the work that is assigned. Initially this position may require full-time or nearly full-time presence in the office or at job site locations as part of training and to gain experience with construction norms. Over time, this position may include a large remote/work-from-home component (1-2 days/week in the office, remainder work-from-home)
