Mortgage Loan Underwriter - JOB #20-25

The Consumer Loan Underwriter utilizes extensive consumer loan processing experience to effectively support the assigned Lending Officer (s) in the servicing of loans and booking/funding of loans. Underwrite and process consumer loans, gather all documentation, figure debt to income ratios and loan to value ratios, and coordinate with attorneys and title companies to ensure timely closing of loans. The loan underwriter will be responsible for reviewing financial information, making informed decisions about loan applications, and writing detailed reports. The candidate must have a deep understanding of loan procedures and regulations, and a strong attention to detail.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Evaluate consumer loan applications and render appropriate decisions within credit policy and in compliance with all regulations.
- Process applications, placing emphasis on response time, quantity of applications processed, and quality of applications approved.
- Provide sales, service and communication related to loan transactions directly to the internal banking staff.
- Enters and processes application information in the loan origination software program.
- Coordinate with Quality Control for compliance review.
- Prepare instructions for residential real estate transactions for:
- Attorney to prepare loan documentation
- Title Company to handle loan closing and issuance of title work.
- Order title work and tax information and survey, collect insurance for Escrow grid.
- Coordinate and share information received with the mortgage loan officer, referring loan officer, attorney, and title company (and customer when the loan officer requests it).
- Review Closing Disclosure statement to ensure compliance and complete loan
- document package after Title Company closing.
- After satisfactory review, fund loan as instructed by the Title Company.
- Organize loan files for processing by Credit Clerk into credit and collateral files.
- Develops and prepares reports and records relating to mortgage loans as required
- Coordinates the workflow with related departments.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Typing of Real Estate Loan Commitments and memos for loan area.
- Work with the loan officer to review all real estate appraisals received.
- Mail appraisal copies to customers.
- Review real estate loan collateral files for completeness after all open items are
- received.
- Assist loan officer as needed to give professional service to mortgage loan
- customers.
Job Requirements:
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3-5 years Mortgage Loan Processing.
Skills and Abilities:
Requires proficiency in knowledge of software, consumer and residential loan documentation/processing, Bank Lending policies, lending forms and technical skills. Excellent P.C. skills with Windows based software preferred. Excellent organizational and communication skills.
